Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:

  1. A group of Charlotte teens wanted to teach their peers about financial literacy so they started a nonprofit, Tickets2TheFuture, for kids their age who don’t know enough about money. Tickets2TheFuture is seeking solutions that will teach kids about everything from investing in the stock market to simply opening a bank account and learning how interest accumulates. The group’s target audience is teens, so what better place to find them than social media? That’s exactly how they’re reaching them with TikTok and other popular social media apps, “according to WCNC. (WCNC.com)
  2. Brooks’ Sandwich House, a local shop that uses a secret family recipe, was recently named by Reader’s Digest as the No. 1 spot to get a burger in North Carolina. “The sandwich shop has been in the Brooks family for three generations. The manager, Lauren Brooks, said it’s not the patty that’s special. The Brooks’ secret family recipe chili is what goes on top of the burger, and it’s a recipe even Lauren Brooks doesn’t know, “according to Spectrum News. (Spectrum News)
  3. School is starting this month for North Carolina. Many parents are getting ready to send their kindergarteners off to school for the first time. Listen to Dr. Mary-Margaret Kantor, the chief early education officer with Smart Start of Mecklenburg County / MECK Pre-K, talk to WBTV about preparing children for the classroom. (WBTV)
  4. C.harlotte Vegfest is returning to Queen City after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Event organizers said this year’s event, which will be held from noon to 4 pm Sept. 17 at Camp North End, is already seeing high demand for the event. The event showcases all aspects of vegan culture: including the food, the consumer products, and the lifestyle. The free event this year will feature a variety of vegan foods, local veg restaurants and food trucks, local vendors, live music, speakers, nutritional experts, vegan cooking demonstrations, free prizes, gift bags and more, according to WCNC. (WCNC.com)
  5. According to Spectrum News, Bank of London is “bringing hundreds of jobs to Charlotte with US expansion. Roughly 350 new jobs will be coming to Charlotte by 2026 as The Bank of London announces expansion plans for its US footprint. The company said it will open its US Global Platform & Services headquarters in the Queen City. “ Mecklenburg and the surrounding counties “can expect an annual payroll impact of nearly $ 33 million when fully staffed.” New York is the first largest banking city in the USA but Charlotte is a close second.
