Anne Heche is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since her car Accident

LOS ANGELES, USA – Hollywood actress Anne Heche remains hospitalized in critical condition, comatose and hooked up to a breathing machine, Monday, Aug. 8, four days after suffering serious injuries in a Los Angeles car crash, a spokesman for the artist said.

Heche, 53, has been hospitalized for a short time after the compact car she was driving lost control in a Los Angeles Westside neighborhood late Friday morning, crashed into a house and burst into flames, police said.

No one inside the house was injured, but the impact set the home on fire, requiring dozens of firefighters to respond.

An LAPD spokesman said Monday that the cause and circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.

Heche is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident, said Michael McConnell, a member of the Los Angeles talent management firm that represents her, Zero Gravity Management.

“At this time, she is in extremely critical condition,” he told Reuters in a text message, adding that Heche “has significant lung damage requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgery.”

The Los Angeles Times quoted a Venice Beach salon owner, Richard Glass, recounting a visit by Heche to his store shortly before the accident, describing her as “a sweet little girl” while shopping for a red wig Friday morning.

Heche became known for her Emmy-winning work in the television series Another World. She went on to play other screen roles, including the HBO series Hung and films such as Wag the Dog and Cedar Rapids.

In the late 1990s, she made tabloid headlines for her affair with comedian Ellen DeGeneres, at a time when DeGeneres publicly came out as a lesbian. After their separation, Heche married cameraman Coleman Laffoon, but they later divorced. She then had a relationship with actor James Tupper, her co-star in the short-lived TV series Men in Trees.
