Community chambers plan yard sales in Mayville, Fredonia, Hanover | News, Sports, Jobs

For many years, Community Chamber committees in the Mayville-Chautauqua, Fredonia, and Hanover areas have run communitywide yard sales in the summer months. This year these events will have a new twist as they also work to promote local businesses in new ways.

The mission of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce is to create a business environment in the region where our members can thrive. With a renewed focus on driving consumers to local businesses, the Chamber is looking at how increased traffic from yard sales can benefit local businesses. To further our mission-based work, the Chamber will provide space on each physical yard sale map for local member businesses to offer coupons or specials. Ad spaces on the maps are ideal for local restaurants and retailers and are offered at no charge to local restaurants and retailers looking to capture some of the yard sale customer traffic.

Chamber President and CEO Daniel Heitzenrater noted, “Business listings on the yard sale maps speak to one of the Chambers core values: driving foot and internet traffic into local businesses to help them increase sales. While consumers may come to the community for another purpose, we also want to encourage them to sample the flavor of the community through its restaurant and retail environments. ”

This year, all of the Chamber yard sales have been standardized to streamline the process and make it easier to promote local businesses. For just $ 10, residents in and around each community can have their personal sale listed on the yard sale map. Those maps will be sold for $ 2 each on sale days in the village parks in each community. All proceeds from yard sales remain with each Community Chamber committee to assist in their year-round programming or scholarships.

The first sale is coming up Memorial Day weekend in the Mayville-Chautauqua region. Sales will be conducted from 9 am to 5 pm, Friday, May 27 through Sunday, May 29. Individual sale hours may vary. Chamber member businesses that would like to have a free ad space on the map to offer specials or coupons may contact Shannon Biekarck, Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber Coordinator at [email protected]

In Fredonia, 2022 marks the return of its Attic and Seller Days June 3 to 5. Fredonia Community Chamber Coordinator Denise Szalkowski noted “The Fredonia Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring this annual event back to the Village. Homeowners are encouraged to clean out their garages, bases, and attics, and participate in the event for a nominal fee of $ 10. These sales have been well attended in past years, and we expect there will be lots of great deals to be found since sellers have had two full years to replenish their inventory. ”

The 30th annual Silver Creek area yard sales conducted by the Hanover Community Chamber of Commerce will be held August 6. Chamber member businesses that want to be listed may contact Hanover Community Chamber Coordinator Dave Kleparek at [email protected]

Homeowners who want to have their sale locations included on these yard sale maps can conveniently register online through the Chamber’s events calendar. Visit the calendar event and click “Register now” to fill in your sale information. We ask that each homeowner list a handful of key items they will be selling, along with their address and basic contact information.

Heitzenrater added, “These yard sales require a fair amount of work for our staff and volunteers, and they do return proceeds to the local committee to help them fund other Community Chamber events such as concerts in the park, scholarships for local high school graduates, and more. Now we are also using them as one additional tool designed to help promote local businesses in those areas. ”
