Students find their career as future educators
Cy-Fair ISD had more than 160 students celebrating and honoring their high schools with the first Future Educators Signing Day, where students signed signed letters that guaranteed them an interview for employment with CFISD.
On April 27, the CFISD Human Resources Department recognized students in the Child Guidance and Teaching and Training courses with the opportunity to sign their letters in front of their family.
“This is special because we are going to celebrate what is going on in our district,” Greg Lozano, CFISD assistant director of human resources, said in a district press release. “The Child Guidance courses and education are part of our curriculum and instruction that go unnoticed sometimes. We hope we can start a lasting tradition that celebrates students for years and years, and brings them back to CFISD so they can serve the community that served them. “

Students learn personal finance with math
Cy-Fair ISD high school students combine math and practicality during the personal finance unit of the Mathematics Models with Applications course.
The class invited junior and senior students to apply for personal finance, making the material more practical and easier to understand. The unit has also provided an opportunity for students to ask questions related to their own finances such as purchasing vehicles and creating personal budgets.
“I really wanted to bring something concrete and interactive to my kids,” Nichole Clark, an MMA teacher at Cypress Ridge, said in a press release. “I’ve taught upper-level math and there you can get way more conceptual and the kids can’t put their hands on it. So, I saw this unit as a way to get my students involved and now that we started, I’m really glad I did. “

Students win at Texas TSA State Competition
Cy-Fair ISD students won a total of 183 first place awards and 154 second place awards during the Texas Technology Student Association State Competition.
The TSA competition also saw Cypress Woods High School named the TSA Division 6 state champion.
“I’m extremely proud of our Wildcats,” Steven Britt, Cypress Woods industrial technology teacher, said in a press release. “After 2020, when the state contest was canceled, and then 2021 being a completely virtual state contest, our students stepped up this year and put in a total of 212 attempts. Cypress Woods brought more entries to the Texas TSA State Competition than any other school in Texas, 120 more than our nearest competitor. The quality of their efforts on these projects allowed us to bring home the state championship for the eighth consecutive year! “

Dean receives instruction from Fulbright Award
Claire Phillips, Lone Star College-CyFair dean of instruction, was awarded the International Education Administrator’s Award, allowing her to study global education in France.
The Fulbright IEA is designed to help US educators create connections across the globe.
“Lone Star College has strategically targeted six countries, including France, with a goal of growing international cooperation with the end of 2022,” Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor, said in a college press release. “This award will allow Dr. Phillips to help develop internationalized science courses to benefit our students, including those attending The Honors College. “
Phillips said she was excited for the partnership.
“I originally heard about the Fulbright opportunity for administrators through the Community Colleges for International Development Organization,” Phillips said. “I am looking forward to establishing long-term relationships with partnering universities so as to expand international education at Lone Star College.”
