Fans, peers and co-stars are paying tribute to Olivia Newton-John after news of her death was announced Monday. The beloved singer and “Grease” actor passed away at the age of 73 at her ranch in Southern California. The cause of death was not disclosed, but Ms. Newton-John had been battling breast cancer for 30 years.
Among those who paid tribute on social media was John Travolta, who said his “Grease” co-star – who played Sandy alongside her Danny in the 1978 musical – “made all of our lives so much better.”
“Your impact has been incredible. I love you so much. We will see you later and we will all be together again. You’ve been mine since the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Actor Daniel Dae Kim and filmmaker James Gunn also paid tribute to the late singer, remembering Newton-John as their first crush.
“Loving farewell to the legend who will forever be my first crush,” Daniel Dae Kim tweeted.
“I am so sad to hear of Olivia Newton-John’s passing. My first real crush as a child. I loved Grease and her music and coincidentally also bought and lived in the beautiful home she built in Malibu for a while. May she rest in peace,” Gunn tweeted.
Comedian Dane Cook thanked Newton-John for her “wonderful music and fun memories.” George Takei, Marlee Matlin, Gabrielle Union and Antonio Banderas, among others, also praised the “Physical” singer.
Another pop musician, Kylie Minogue, tweeted that Newton-John “was, and always will be, an inspiration to me in so many ways.”
