Women’s Track & Field’s Dello Russo Named CoSIDA Academic All-American for Third Time

GREENWOOD, Ind. (June 22, 2022) – For the third time in her historical career, doctoral student Gina Dello Russo The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s track and field team was named a First Team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Tuesday.

The honor is the third for Dello Russo, who becomes just the fourth student-athlete to earn three academic All-America accolades in school history. The prestigious Academic All-District selection in five different academic years. Student-athletes are not eligible for recognition until their sophomore year.

“This award shows what makes Gina so valuable,” assistant coach John Kolibab said. “While her on-field aptitude was unbelievably obvious, it was all about the little things that she did off that made her one of the most well-rounded athletes I’ve ever worked with. It’s tough to find student-athletes who are So proficient in every aspect of collegiate athletics and student-athletes like Gina are one in a million. “

In a 14-time All-American total of three different events, Dello Russo won a national championship one year ago, topping the field in the 400-meter dash, while breaking his own school record in the process. The Morris Plains, New Jersey native collected his final All-America accolade two days after earning his fifth Academic All-District recognition. Dello Russo is the program’s first All-American in the long jump, holds multiple school and conference records and capped its conference championship career by winning four events in May to earn the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Field Athlete of the Year award.

Working toward her doctorate in socio-technical systems, Dello Russo posted a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average as undergraduate, earning her degree in engineering management. She then finished with a 4.0 GPA in her graduate coursework, completing her master’s in mechanical engineering before entering Stevens’ doctoral program. Dello Russo also holds graduate certificates in Data Exploration and Visualization for Risk and Decision Making and Logistics and Supply Chain Analysis.

Dello Russo was one of four three-time first-team selections. A total of 15 student-athletes were repeat selections. Fifteen members of the Academic All-America Division III women’s track & field / cross country teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.91, with the entire women’s team holding a collective average GPA of 3.87.

Stevens is located in Division III’s Second District, which encompasses institutions from Connecticut, Washington, DC, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
